Add unique content to your blog! (If you don’t have a blog, get one NOW!)

In previous articles, you may have noticed that I always hammer on fresh unique content. Content serves as search engine’s favourite food!

Each website needs a blog, or a way to add new content to their website. Write content to appeal to your target audience, but keep in mind that with a blog, you can attract people who you did not intend on targeting as well. These “randoms” can count as positive visitors: Firstly they count as traffic to your site and Secondly, they can attract other visitors by word of mouth, or through social networks, that you actually wanted on your site in the first place.

Here is an example: I have an online guitar shop. My target audience are people who play guitar, and want to buy guitars. By writing reviews on guitars, ways to maintain guitars, or about your favorite guitar brands, I will attract my target audience. Lets say, I write a review about a band I have seen live. My live show review will attract fans of the band, people who are into the live music scene, as well people looking for good music. Any of these people could serve as potential customers, or they can help direct potential customers to you.

By writing these kinds of articles, you will become established within the community, as well as creating a community that is your own. Not only will you generate more traffic with this content, but you will be much easier to find on search engines, because of the variety and volume of content available on your website.

Join Facebook (or any social network) and create a Fan Page for your website

Social networks, especially Facebook, are great ways to promote your website. By creating a Fan Page on Facebook,  you can invite all your friends to join. When they join, their friends will in turn see that they have joined your page, and they might also take a look, immediately exposing yourself to someone new, without even trying! You can then keep people updated on latest news from your website, or promote your website and page on your own personal profile. The possibilities are endless!

Create inbound links to your website

Market your website on other websites, so that they can send a link back to your site. Search for websites that can serve as a referral back to your website. Look for sites that you can post articles or designs on. Answer people’s questions on forums. Submit your website for awards. There are thousands of websites out there that can help you create traffic to your website. Some that you already may be familiar with are StumbleUpon or Digg, but even websites like the South Africa Web Awards Website, will generate bring to your site.
